Just as Colin and I had finished our first game or Warlords of Erehwon at the weekend, Dave and his tribe joined us for a game of Chain of Command.
I’m not sure who’s idea it was but it ended being an adult versus kids game. The boys decided that they would go with the British. They like playing with lots of supports so went for the attack, gaining 6 points from the dice roll with an additional +3 for facing off against German Panzer Grenadiers. We chose the ‘Attack On An Objective’ scenario.
After much discussion they opted to go for a Churchill AVRE to lend them some much needed HE support, 16 dice worth, ouch!!
With our meagre points allowance we went for an extra Panzerschreck team and an Adjutant.
The patrol phase went well for both sides with each having Jump Off Points in good positions. The boys scored a Force morale of 8 for their British platoon with us lot getting 9 for the Germans.

The first few turns see both sides getting their infantry deployed. The Germans in defensive positions in the centre near the objective and on both flanks. The British deploying in to a woods on their right and left flanks with the left flank being supported by the Churchill AVRE.
The Boys score the first kills with the AVRE opening up on the German Panzer Grenadiers on their right flank. Unlucky dice rolls leads to the death of the German infantry section Junior Leader and consequently a drop in the German Force morale (-1). A good start for the boys!
Not wanting to suffer anymore losses to the AVRE the German infantry redeploy out of sight. In the meantime the British Infantry and the AVRE advance on their left flank under cover of smoke put down from the 2″ mortar.

As the British advance they decide to try and take out the objective with the AVRE.

With the Germans gaining a double phase they rush up two Grenadiers armed with Panzerfausts and engage the AVRE, unfortunately they only manage to cause minor damage and mobilise it.
However, the AVRE is not so lucky when it’s engaged by the Panzershreck team which manages to knock it out.

British Infantry Advance on the objective.
German Grenadiers take up positions.
German Grenadiers on Left Flank.
Also, all is not going well on the right flank for the Brits as they come under increasing fire from the Germans and after loosing their Junior and Senior leaders in short succession their Force Moral is depleted and the Germans claim victory!
Better luck next time boys!
