Early last week we received our new gaming mat from Killing Fields Terrain. This mat is made from ‘Teddy Bear fur’ material and was purchased to replace our older Games Workshop gaming mat. The cost was just under £80 including postage from the States and took just under two weeks to arrive.
On opening the box I was greeted by a printed instruction sheet, a vac sealed bag and a small bag containing a comb. All of which gave the impression that this company delivers goods of a high quality.
I opened the vac sealed bag and unfolded the battle mat and laid it out on the gaming table. I was a little concerned whilst I was unfolding it as it looked rather brown, far more so than I was expecting. I was expecting it to look a lot more green than it did!
With a little trepidation I followed the instructions and used the comb to back-comb the mat. This process took about 10 – 15 minutes, it’s a large mat after all, measuring roughly 7 feet by 5 feet.
The end result though was well worth it, with the fibres now more upright the greens show through much better and I was pleased with how it looked. Much more realistic than our old mat.

Downsides, none really. The only slight niggle is the fact that some miniatures struggle to stand upright, especially if they’re lightweight or slightly off balance. The included instruction sheet does give hints on how to cure this by suggesting the use of coins or washers as extra weights on the bases of the miniatures.
Overall, very pleased with this mat and we expect to purchase more in the future as we build more gaming tables.
