Sunday’s CoC Game

It was proving to be a busy weekend! A game of Chain of Command on Saturday evening with Dave and the boys and then another game with Colin on Sunday.

The Sunday game was a good one. US Airborne platoon Vs German Heer Platoon. Colin opted for the attack and gained 9 support points from the dice rolls and another 3 from the US Airborne.

With the available Support Points the Germans managed to bring on to the board a considerable amount of supports including a late Panzer IV and a flamethrower team.

Conversely, the US Airborne had relatively few support points, four in total. With those they opted for an adjutant and a sniper.

The American plan was for the infantry to take up defensive positions near to the hedges on the outskirts of the Hamlet with orders to hold up the enemy advance for as long as possible. They were supported by one of the senior leaders. the Sniper was positioned (Farmhouse nearest in image above) to take out any enemy officer unwise enough to show his head! Close to him was the 60mm mortar and the remaining Senior Leader.

The started well for the Americans although one of the infantry sections had to redeploy to cover their right flank as the Germans were advancing in that direction in great numbers.

However once redeployed they managed to inflict a lot of casualties on the advancing Germans caught out in the open. With one section wiped out the Germans started to head for cover.

Unfortunately for the Americans more and more Germans were entering the table, including the Panzer IV, at which point the Americans withdrew in to the cover of the buildings.

A lack of windows facing the advancing Germans made it impossible for the Americans to engage them so the hunkered down reading themselves to defend against the upcoming assault.

Unfortunately, a rather bad dice roll in the close combat saw the American getting wiped out. They did however make it costly for the Germans, wiping out one of the two attacking infantry sections.

Being Veterans the US Airborne would normally have been able to shrug off this set back but unfortunately for them, their commander (yours truly) managed to completely cock up the whole plan!!

The plan involved keeping the two complete Chain of Command dice ready to deploy the as yet un-deployed Bazooka team in to ambush to take out the Panzer IV. If this could be achieved the game could be won!!

The Panzer IV was advancing towards a jump off point from which an ambush could be sprung and just when it was within 9 inches of it (the best possible range to fire the anti-tank weapon so as to get the ‘to hit score’ as low as possible) Numpty here realised that I had in fact just deployed the said Bazooka team on table! The air was rather blue to say the least!

Recovering from my moment of numptyness I managed to redeploy the Bazooka team around and on to the Panzer IV’s flank (Through a double phase). The Bazooka team fired, and Missed!!

The Panzer IV return fire next phase but missed the rather lucky Bazooka team. However their luck was not to hold, as after another miss on the tank they were wiped out by the tanks next round of fire.

At this point the US Airborne, without any other AT capability decided to withdraw from the table.

Thanks to Colin for a great game even with me being a complete numpty!

Morale to the story, I helps if you remember your own plan!!
